Unibody Construction

The Transit Cargo Van is built with lightweight yet strong unibody construction. Front, rear and side rails are welded with the floor pan, crossmembers and torque boxes to form a single body. Unibody construction, while lighter in weight than body-on-frame, yields tremendous strength and durability. It’s built with high-strength steel as well as boron steel in select areas.

Tested and Built Ford Tough®

The Ford Transit Cargo Van has been subjected to over eleven million customer-equivalent kilometres of brutal testing in our labs and proving grounds, on roads and highways across North America, at temperature extremes from -20 to 48 degrees Celsius. We used trucks driven by robots at our Michigan Proving Grounds facility to conduct tests that would be too strenuous for human drivers over an extended period of time, enabling us to compress years of daily abuse into a mere few months. Our objective: enable Transit to take on the toughest challenges of strength and dependability on your everyday jobs.
