2018 Ford C-MAX engine

Don’t fight the power

Designed for fun-to-drive performance, the 2018 C-MAX touts best-in-class* combined horsepower . It also features power-split hybrid architecture, which allows the lithium-ion battery and gasoline-powered engine to work together or separately using the motor and generator. Even slowing down in C-MAX Hybrid is efficient, thanks to regenerative braking, which recovers more than 90 percent of this energy and sends it back to the battery to be stored for later use.**
* When properly equipped. Max combined horsepower of 188 on C-MAX Hyrbid with 2.0L Atkinson-Cycle I-4 Hybrid Engine. Class is Small Hybrid Vehicles based on Ford segmentation.
**Results may vary depending on driving habits.

Best-in-Class* Horsepower

C-MAX Hybrid delivers best-in-class* 188 combined horsepower, and in all-electric mode, it is capable of a top speed of up to 137 km/h. The combined energy of a dynamic electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery and the 2.0L Atkinson-cycle I-4 gas engine propels C-MAX Hybrid. And power-split hybrid architecture allows the battery and gasoline-powered engine to work together using the motor and generator.

2.0L iVCT Atkinson-cycle I-4 Engine

The lithium-ion battery and the 2.0L I-4 Atkinson-cycle gasoline-powered engine work together or separately by using the motor and generator to help maximize the vehicle’s efficiency.
2018 Ford C-MAX Hybrid EcoSelect Button

EcoSelect Button

EcoSelect allows the vehicle to operate more efficiently. Drivers may notice softer acceleration, changes in engine behavior, and EcoCruise activation. To activate the feature, press the EcoSelect button on the centre console. A graphic will appear in the information display when EcoSelect is activated.
2018 Ford C-MAX Hybrid Braking

Regenerative Braking and Brake Coach

Regenerative braking recovers energy that is usually lost during braking or coasting and stores that energy in your battery for later use. The Brake Coach appears after the vehicle has come to a stop. It coaches you to brake in a manner that maximizes the amount of energy returned through the Regenerative Braking System. The percent displayed is an indication of the regenerative braking efficiency with 100 percent representing the maximum amount of energy recovery.*

2018 Ford C-MAX Transmission

Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (eCVT)

The C-MAX Hybrid powertrain uses an eCVT or electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, combining power from the engine and electric motor to deliver power to the wheels when you accelerate. Engineered, designed and produced in-house by Ford, the eCVT eliminates the noticeable upshifts and downshifts of conventional transmissions, providing a seamless driving experience.
2018 Ford C-MAX Active Grille Shutters

Active Grille Shutters21

Active Grille Shutters21 can help improve efficiency by altering the shutters behind the grille. Located between the grille opening and the radiator, the shutters are electronically controlled by the engine control module. They open or close to help maintain the ideal engine operating temperature. When less engine cooling is needed, the shutters close to help improve aerodynamics.
