Plus, easily load cargo up to 4-ft. (1.21 m) wide, 4-ft. (1.21 m) tall and 7 ft. (2.13 m) long. Maximum payload rating is 1,630 lbs. (739 kg).
Unsurpassed Towing Capability

Unsurpassed Towing Capability

When the task at hand calls for towing, the Transit Connect comes through with an unsurpassed* towing capacity of 2,000 lbs. (907 kg) when equipped with the Trailer Tow Prep Package. Among the included features is Trailer Sway Control (TSC) linked to the technology of the standard AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™) system19 .

AdvanceTrac® with RSC® and Trailer Sway Control

AdvanceTrac® with RSC® and Trailer Sway Control19

Standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®)19  uses two gyroscopic sensors monitoring yaw and roll rates, helping you maintain control whenever it detects wheel slip, understeer, oversteer or roll motion. It also helps maintain control on road conditions such as ice, gravel or rain. AdvanceTrac with RSC also features Curve Control, which slows the vehicle down when it senses that it’s going too fast for a particular curve—plus Trailer Sway Control, included in the Trailer Tow Prep Package19 .
Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control

Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control19

When you’re approaching a curve on wet or dry pavement, standard electronic Curve Control19  can sense if you’re going too fast and slow you down using throttle reduction and anti-lock braking. Once you’re into the curve, G-forces tend to transfer more traction to the outside tires than to the inside ones. Standard Torque Vectoring Control enhances that by transferring torque to the wheels that have the most grip, reducing understeer and forcing the front end to hug the inside of the curve19 .
Electronic Emergency Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist

Emergency Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist10

The Transit Connect Cargo Van comes with two technologies you’ll find reassuring:

(1) When brake pedal pressure applied is insufficient to meet a hard stopping situation, Emergency Brake Assist10  automatically supplies the amount of force needed to reduce the stopping distance.

(2) When you’re stopped on an incline, Hill Start Assist10  automatically holds the brake to help prevent backward roll while you’re going from the brake pedal to the accelerator. This is especially helpful when hauling a heavy load, a task the Transit Connect is quite familiar with.

Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS)

Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS)

Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) operates more efficiently than conventional steering with an electric motor instead of a power-draining hydraulic pump. Its speed-sensitive technology adapts to changing conditions to improve manoeuvrability and handling. EPAS provides an easy, fluid feel of the wheel during low-speed manoeuvres, which becomes firmer as speed increases. That’s not all. EPAS can offset pulling or drifting caused by steady crosswinds or crowned road surfaces and can also dampen wheel vibrations.

2.5L iVCT Engine

2.5L iVCT Engine

The 2.5L iVCT engine delivers power ratings of 169 horsepower, 171 lb.-ft. of torque, and features computer-controlled, intake variable cam timing (iVCT). iVCT varies the cam timing across the entire power band to match the driving condition, optimizing power and fuel efficiency* from low-end acceleration to high-end cruising. The 2.5L offers a CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package** that allows for upfit to either compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane autogas.

*Government of Canada-estimated rating of 11.9L/100 km (24 mpg) city, 8.7L/100 km (32 mpg) hwy, and 10.5L/100 km (28 mpg) combined2 (van). Actual mileage will vary.

**Package includes hardened engine intake valves, hardened engine valve seats and hardened engine exhaust valves.

6-Speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission

6-Speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission

The 6-speed SelectShift® automatic has wide-ratio gearing for responsive low-end performance and high-end efficiency. SelectShift has two modes: Progressive Range Select limits the range of gears while in Drive to lock out overdrive for consistent speed over hilly terrain; Full Manual mode with a toggle switch on the knob lets you shift up and down the gearbox, like operating a manual but without the clutch. Another feature is Tow/Haul. On an uphill, it selects the gear that minimizes gear hunting. On a downhill, it keeps the vehicle from upshifting and gaining speed, reducing reliance on brake pressure to slow down.
