Automotive Technician Training Program

Ford Motor Company of Canada teamed up with your Ford and Ford Lincoln dealers, Provincial governments and local community colleges to develop the Ford ASSET program (Ford Automotive Student Service Educational Training Program).

This program assists highly motivated people by fast tracking their career as a Ford or Ford Lincoln dealership technician.

About the Program

Those in the program receive instruction from trained professionals, both at the dealership and local community college, and earn a paycheque. Two major factors have created a serious shortage of trained and certified automotive technicians. The first is the overall graying of the workforce.

Technicians are retiring at rapid rate with no skilled technicians available to replace them. Combine that with technicians who have not kept pace with the rapid advances in technology, and you can see a very pronounced need. The Ford ASSET program fulfills that need. Ford and Ford Lincoln dealerships recruit and support the best people in our industry to ensure that they can continue to provide high-quality service to our customers for years to come.

This translates into a job market that is hungry for certified automotive technicians. In 2016, all Ford ASSET program graduates were hired for full-time positions at one of approximately 440 Ford or Ford Lincoln dealerships across Canada.

Apply at Participating Schools

The Ford ASSET program is a two-part program. It is divided between classroom instruction at a local college and paid work experience at a sponsoring Ford or Ford Lincoln dealer. Ford ensures you use only the latest in technology and vehicles.

Typically, high school shop students have shown the most interest but really anyone who is a high school graduate with an aptitude for the technical side of vehicles may be eligible. To get started, choose a school from the list below. Each school has its own particular enrollment procedure. Please read carefully and follow the instructions closely.

Get Your Training Sponsored by a Dealership – Find Out How

The future is here! Ford and Ford Lincoln dealerships recruit and support only the best people in the industry. To participate, obtain a letter of sponsorship from a participating Ford or Ford Lincoln dealership (click on "Dealers," then find a dealership in your area by using the Locator tool). Then find out if you have the prerequisites the selected training institutes require by choosing a school from the list provided. Finally, complete your chosen school's application form and submit it along with that school's application fee (amount depends on the school) to the address supplied on the application form. Good luck!

Dealerships

Sponsoring Ford and Ford Lincoln dealers play a vital role in the Ford ASSET program so it is important that you contact the service manager at the dealership in your area to obtain sponsorship information.

First, our dealerships will interview you. If you are successful, you are assigned an in-dealership coordinator who will work with the school Ford ASSET coordinator to plan and monitor your curriculum. Our dealerships provide the work experience that reinforces your most recent classroom instruction. They supply you with uniforms (in keeping with dealership policy). And, yes, you are paid for working at the dealership.

The Benefits of Building a Career with Ford

Ford ASSET graduates receive Ford Motor Company of Canada Service Technician Specialty Training (STST) credentials that technicians receive when attending Ford training centres and gain hands-on dealership experience. This translates into a job market that is hungry for certified automotive technicians. In 2016, all Ford ASSET program graduates were hired for full-time positions at one of approximately 440 Ford or Ford Lincoln dealerships across Canada.
