Powerful 2.3L EcoBoost® Engine

Powerful 2.3L EcoBoost® Engine

A powerful 2.3L EcoBoost® engine delivers 280 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.11 And it’s available with 4WD and the Class II Trailer Tow Package.
Standard 3.5L Ti-VCT engine

Standard 3.5L Ti-VCT engine

The 3.5L Ti-VCT (twin independent variable camshaft timing) delivers 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque11 . With conventional valve timing, the intake and exhaust valves have to open and close at a fixed point, compromising performance. But Ti-VCT virtually eliminates this compromise. With its variable control of valve cam timing, Ti-VCT can optimize performance across the entire low, mid and high ranges of the power band to match the driving conditions. The 3.5L Ti-VCT also delivers excellent fuel efficiency with a Government of Canada-estimated rating of 13.9 L/100 km (20 mpg) city, 9.7 L/100 km (29 mpg) hwy, and 12.0 L/100 km (24 mpg) combined*.2

Trailer Sway Control

Trailer Sway Control19

Building on AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™19 , the standard trailer sway control (TSC) selectively brakes and adjusts engine power to maintain trailer control19. The result is stability and confidence, even when towing large loads.
AdvanceTrac® with RSC®

AdvanceTrac® with RSC®19

Standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®)19 uses two gyroscopic sensors to monitor both yaw rate and roll rate. This allows AdvanceTrac® with RSC to help you maintain control whenever it detects wheelslip, understeer, oversteer or roll motion. It also helps maintain control on adverse road conditions such as ice, gravel or rain. AdvanceTrac® with RSC also features Curve Control19, which will slow the vehicle down when it senses that it’s going too fast for a particular curve.

Curve Control

Curve Control19

Curve Control19 will slow you down as much as 16 km/h in approximately one second when it senses that you’re going too fast for a particular curve. Employing throttle reduction and four-wheel braking, it’s always active in helping you maintain control around curves. Also, it can function on dry or wet pavement and is particularly useful when entering or exiting highway off or on-ramps with too much speed. Curve Control, standard on all Ford Explorer models, is an enhancement to AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control19 .
Six-Speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission

Six-Speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission

The Ford Explorer comes standard with a Six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, so you can easily and quickly change gears.

The available Class III Trailer Tow Package, required for maximum towing, includes an engine oil cooler, wiring harness and tow hitch. The Explorer offers features that make towing easy. The standard rear view camera10 provides a video image on the centre console screen of the area behind you, with screen guides that help you align your vehicle when hooking up a trailer. Hill start assist helps keep the vehicle from rolling backward when you’re on a slope or hill. The trailer sway control feature, integrated with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™19 , detects trailer sway, automatically adjusts engine speed and applies asymmetric braking to help counter it. A Class II tow package is also available with 2.3L engine (3,000 lbs/1,361 kg).
