2019 Chassis Cab

Super Duty Chassis Cab with utility box

The 2019 Super Duty® Chassis Cab gas engines — the 6.2L V8 (F-350) and 6.8L V10 (F-450/F-550) — deliver all the power you need for the tough everyday jobs you face, on the job site or on the road. Teamed with the proven Ford TorqShift® SelectShift® 6-speed automatic, both engines are equipped with the Live-Drive power takeoff (PTO) provision with Mobile Mode. For heavy-duty diesel performance, the latest generation of the available 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel Engine is the most powerful ever in a Ford Super Duty Class 3–5 chassis cab.

Available Power Stroke V 8 Turbo Diesel Engine

The latest generation of the available B20-capable 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel Engine delivers 330 horsepower and 750 lb.-ft. of torque. The Power Stroke features a unique inverse-flow configuration: the exhaust manifolds and turbocharger are mounted between the cylinder heads above the engine block. This inboard configuration allows a large single turbocharger to be mounted closer to the exhaust manifolds for faster air displacement and more power. Another notable feature is the compacted graphite iron engine block that is stronger yet lighter than cast iron.

The class-exclusive* 6.8L Triton® V10 is the standard gas engine in Super Duty® XL and XLT F-450/F-550 Chassis Cabs. Power ratings are 288 horsepower and 424 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s teamed with the proven Ford TorqShift® SelectShift® 6-speed automatic transmission and offers the standard Live-Drive power takeoff (PTO) Provision with Mobile Mode.

Torque rules in big work trucks pulling big loads. And no other V8 gas-powered Class 3–5 chassis cab* delivers as much torque (430 lb.-ft.) as the Super Duty® 6.2L V8, which is standard in the F-350. The 6.2L has tuning and camshaft configurations designed to increase peak torque at lower rpm. The standard Live-Drive power takeoff (PTO) provision with Mobile Mode is included with the 6.2L engine.

Ford TorqShift six speed automatic transmission

The Ford TorqShift® SelectShift® 6-speed automatic transmission delivers high-torque performance and dependability. Big, strong gears can easily handle the heavy torque demands of the turbo diesel and gas engines. Fewer rpm are required because the torque converter locks up at lower speeds. The TorqShift® offers SelectShift® and Tow/Haul features. SelectShift® has two modes: Progressive Range Select that limits the range of gears to lock out overdrive, plus Full Manual control. Tow/Haul selects the gear that minimizes gear hunting on uphills. On a downhill, it keeps the vehicle from upshifting and gaining speed, reducing reliance on brake pressure to slow down.

The class-exclusive* Live-Drive power takeoff (PTO) Provision with Mobile Mode** lets you power an aftermarket snowplow, pump, compressor or other accessory. And the big news: PTO provision is standard with the 6.2L V8 and 6.8L V10 gas engines as well as the 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel. An output gear connects directly to the engine crankshaft to power your PTO anytime the engine is running, whether the truck is in motion or stopped. Another big feature is “split-shaft” capability (diesel only) that allows multiple accessories to operate at the same time when the truck is stopped.

The 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel incorporates a Smart Exhaust Brake function. When activated with a button on the instrument panel, the engine brake restricts the turbocharger’s exhaust flow to generate back pressure and slow the vehicle. The main benefit is greater control while travelling downhill, regardless of vehicle load or road grade10 . Also, because the engine brake helps minimize having to apply pedal pressure, brake fade and lining wear are reduced, lowering the cost of maintenance. Three settings are available: On, Off and Auto. The Auto setting modulates engine braking as needed to help maintain the speed you want based on accelerator and brake pedal use.

Some operating conditions, such as long idling, don’t generate enough engine heat for the diesel to automatically burn off soot in the diesel particulate filter. That’s where available Operator-Commanded Regeneration with Active Inhibit comes in. When the warning light comes on, pushing the activation button raises the exhaust temperature to burn off the soot, after which the exhaust temperature reverts to normal. The active inhibit feature allows delay of regeneration when the vehicle is sitting over combustible materials, such as dry leaves or grass. Once in a safe place, the driver can manually start the regeneration process. Recommended for commercial applications.
