Ford Automotive Career Exploration is a partnership program between Ford Motor Company, Ford dealerships, and secondary and post-secondary educational institutions. This program offers deeper insight into career opportunities within the automotive industry with a focus on service technicians.

Automotive Career Exploration (ACE)

The Automotive Career Exploration (ACE) program gives students the opportunity to explore automotive careers so they can find a rewarding career in an industry they love. The program is a partnership between high schools, colleges, local Ford dealerships, and Ford of Canada.

Courses

Secondary schools and colleges in the ACE program have access to an online portal with 60+ courses. These courses include instruction on electrical systems fundamentals, steering and suspension, and engines from the same curriculum that certified Ford technicians receive. These courses are continually updated with the latest technologies and vehicle releases. This means students will have access to up-to-date courses that will help get a head start in their career. Completed courses can also be used as training credit towards Ford technician certification.

Dealership Partners

Dealership partners provide students with unique career discovery opportunities, hands-on learning, and may lead to immediate job opportunities for students. Dealership partners also assist in program design to align courses with the needs of students and current industry technological advancements. Schools can request vehicle components, including engines, transmissions, and electrical components to enhance student learning.

Program Availability

While the ACE program is open to secondary schools and colleges with automotive programs across Canada, program availability is dependent on a Ford dealer sponsorship. If the ACE program is not currently available in your local secondary school/college automotive program, contact your administrator or your local Ford dealer management to start a conversation!

The ACE program is designed as an exploration program for students to discover more about the automotive service technician industry. You can contact your local Ford dealership for more information on starting your career. Depending on location and availability, they may offer sponsorship in the Ford Automotive Student Service Educational Training (ASSET) program.
The Ford ASSET program assists highly motivated people by fast-tracking their career as a Ford dealership technician. This two-part program is divided between classroom instruction at a local college and paid work experience at a sponsoring Ford dealer using only the latest technology and vehicles.

Automotive Student Service Educational Training Program (ASSET)

Ford Motor Company of Canada teamed up with your Ford dealers, Provincial governments and local community colleges to develop the Ford ASSET program (Ford Automotive Student Service Educational Training Program).

This program assists highly motivated people by fast tracking their career as a Ford dealership technician. Those in the program receive instruction from trained professionals, both at the dealership and local community college, while earning a paycheque.

Through the Ford ASSET program, Ford recruits and supports the best people in our industry to ensure that they can continue to provide high-quality service to our customers for years to come.

The Ford ASSET program is a two-part program. It is divided between classroom instruction at a local college and paid work experience at a sponsoring Ford dealer. Ford ensures you use only the latest in technology and vehicles.

Typically, high school shop students have shown the most interest but really anyone who is a high school graduate with an aptitude for the technical side of vehicles may be eligible. To get started, choose a school from the list below. Each school has its own particular enrollment procedure. Please read carefully and follow the instructions closely.

Alberta

Southern Alberta Institute of Technology

As part of the Ford ASSET Program, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology will provide four 8-week periods of technical instruction to approved apprentices.

Apprentices commence training upon the receipt of all necessary completed forms and allotted industry experience. Program content, materials, and information are consistent with current industry standards.

The Ford ASSET program consists of a 24-month rotation period. The completion of the apprenticeship program will take 48 months. Students will benefit from receiving Ford specific product information as well as Alberta apprenticeship registered curriculum.

Upon successful completion of the Ford ASSET program, graduates will have earned credit for 5 of the 8 core specialties outlined in the Ford of Canada "Service Technician Specialty Training" program: Once the provincial apprenticeship work experience criteria is met, apprentices will be eligible to write the exam for their inter-provincial journeymen's license.

British Columbia

British Columbia Institute of Technology

The Ford ASSET program at BCIT is a two-year college diploma program leading to a bachelor program in Automotive and Heavy Equipment Management or Automotive Engineering.

In addition to the technical curriculum, courses in areas such as accounting essentials, applied business practices, business math, business fundamentals, communications, customer relations and sales, drafting and physics are also an integral part of the program.

Red River College

Open to apprentices with a Ford Sponsoring Dealer.

Focus: all aspects of Ford's latest vehicle technology, especially electronics and the diagnosing of the vehicle electronic management system.

Participants alternate between the college and their sponsoring dealership. The in-school training is 32 weeks long in total and consists of four 8-week sessions alternating between three 10-month terms of in-dealership training.

Upon successful completion of the Ford ASSET program, graduates will have earned credit for 5 of the 8 core specialties outlined in the Ford of Canada "Service Technician Specialty Training" program: Once the provincial apprenticeship work experience criteria is met, apprentices will be eligible to write the exam for their inter-provincial journeymen's license.

Centennial College

Open to apprentices with a Ford Sponsoring Dealer.

Focus: all aspects of Ford's latest vehicle technology, especially electronics and the diagnosing of vehicle electronic management system.

In-school training is 32 weeks long in total; every four weeks, participants alternate between the college and the employer for an overall total of 64 weeks.

Upon successful completion of the Ford ASSET program, graduates will have earned credit for 5 of the 8 core specialties outlined in the Ford of Canada "Service Technician Specialty Training" program: Once the provincial apprenticeship work experience criteria is met, apprentices will be eligible to write the exam for their inter-provincial journeymen's license.

Get Your Training Sponsored by a Dealership – Find Out How

The future is here! Ford dealerships recruit and support only the best people in the industry. To participate, obtain a letter of sponsorship from a participating Ford dealership. Then find out if you have the prerequisites the selected training institutes require by choosing a school from the list provided. Finally, complete your chosen school's application form and submit it along with that school's application fee (amount depends on the school) to the address supplied on the application form. Sponsoring Ford dealers play a vital role in the Ford ASSET program so it is important that you contact the service manager at the dealership in your area to obtain sponsorship information.

First, Ford dealerships will interview you. If you are successful, you are assigned an in-dealership coordinator who will work with the school Ford ASSET coordinator to plan and monitor your curriculum. Ford dealerships provide the work experience that reinforces your most recent classroom instruction. They supply you with uniforms (in keeping with dealership policy). And, yes, you are paid for working at the dealership.

Ford ASSET graduates receive Ford Motor Company of Canada Service Technician Specialty Training (STST) credentials that technicians receive when attending Ford training centres and gain hands-on dealership experience. This translates into a job market that is hungry for certified automotive technicians. In 2016, all Ford ASSET program graduates were hired for full-time positions at Ford dealerships across Canada.

The Record of Prior Learning program enables experienced technicians to capitalize on their previous training. Those with formal industry education can receive credits for equivalent Ford technical courses, eliminating the need for repetition.
