What can the modem in my Ford vehicle do?
A vehicle modem provides access to remote command features like remote start* and stop. For more information, refer to the details below.
Notes:
- The modem was known as SYNC®** Connect for 2017 and 2018 model-year vehicles.
- The modem was known as FordPass Connect for select 2018 through 2025 model-year vehicles.
Modem Details
Your vehicle's modem:
- Allows use of connected-vehicle features with the Ford app.
- Provides internet access directly from the vehicle with a Wi-Fi subscription data plan.
- Eligible vehicle purchases come with a complimentary 3-month or 3 GB trial of Wi-Fi® hotspot† from AT&T/Bell.
- Post-trial subscriptions require activation via the AT&T/Bell website.
- Allows access to vehicle data to activate connected vehicle features.
- Uses a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card to exchange data.
To continue efforts to help make our Ford customers’ lives worry-free and unstoppable, the following features are complimentary for all Ford customers who have a vehicle equipped with a modem:

**Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
†Wi-Fi Hotspot includes wireless data trial that begins upon Bell activation and expires at the end of three months or when 3GB of data is used, whichever comes first, but cannot extend beyond the trial subscription period for remote features. To activate, go to the Bell activation page.
††Remote lock/unlock requires power door locks.
