F-150 Lightning™ Towing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General Towing FAQs

What is the range of the all-electric F-150 Lightning?

The following are the EPA-estimated battery ranges for the F-150 Lightning:

  • Extended-range battery:
    • XLT - 515 kilometres (km)
    • Lariat - 515 km
    • Platinum - 483 km
  • Standard-range battery - 370 km

What is the towing range of the F-150 Lightning?

There are many factors that affect towing range, which is why we created Ford-exclusive technologies like Intelligent Range and FordPass®* Power My Trip to give you more accurate vehicle range calculations in real-time.

Smart technologies take these factors into account, along with cloud-connected data from other F-150 Lightning owners, to calculate highly accurate range information, especially in areas you have never driven.

Should Intelligent Range determine you need to stop for a DC fast charge along your tow route, FordPass Power My Trip will automatically map those locations along the way.

How much can the F-150 Lightning tow?

The standard-range F-150 Lightning has a maximum 7,700-pound tow capacity in the XLT and Lariat models with the optional Max Tow Package. The extended-range F-150 Lightning has a 10,000-pound towing capacity on XLT and Lariat models with the optional Max Tow Package installed.

Will towing significantly reduce battery range?

Electric trucks experience the same range degradation that we see when towing with traditional gasoline-powered internal combustion engines. Factors that affect fuel economy and range include:

  • Trailer weight
  • Wind resistance
  • Traffic speed
  • Weather
  • Route topography
  • Driver habits

The main difference is how drivers adapt to understanding how electric trucks manage range information and recharging using tools like FordPass Power My Trip, and Intelligent Range, versus using a traditional gas gauge.
