How do I get the latest Map updates for my SYNC®* Navigation system?

Based on your SYNC generation, you may either receive updates automatically or you will need to request them online.

SYNC Map Update Instructions by Generation

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down menu below to learn how to update your SYNC Navigation.

Notes:

  • Before updating your SYNC Navigation, make sure your SYNC system is up-to-date.
  • You can confirm your SYNC generation through the SYNC and Navigation Updates page by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or logging in with your Ford credentials and selecting Check for Update. Your SYNC Generation will appear under "SYNC Current Version". 

SYNC 4A and SYNC 4

You will receive Map updates through Ford Power-Up software updates automatically during your free trial and subscribed service periods**.

Full Map updates occur once per year. Updates for the radius you drive most often occur quarterly.

You can extend your subscription at ford.ca/connectedservices. 

SYNC 3

To update your SYNC 3 Navigation:

  1. Visit the SYNC and Navigation update page.
  2. Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for Update.
  3. Select the dropdown under Navigation Updates and follow the instructions.

Note: If your SYNC Navigation is up-to-date, you will see a green checkmark and a message stating that an update is not available.

Generations Prior to SYNC 3

Notes:

  • Generations prior to SYNC 3 include SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation, SYNC with MyFord Touch, SYNC with MyFord, SYNC with Navigation "P", SYNC Gen 1.1, and SYNC Gen 1.
  • The same instructions apply to all of these SYNC generations.

To update your Navigation:

  1. Before updating the map, make sure your SYNC system is up-to-date.
  2. Visit the Ford Navigation website.
  3. Enter your vehicle year and model in the search bar.
  4. Choose from the map options and select Add to Cart.
  5. Complete the checkout process.

Additional Information

*Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.

**Navigation services require SYNC 4 and FordPass Connect™ (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connect service and the FordPass App (see FordPass Terms for details). Eligible vehicles receive a complimentary 90-day trial of navigation services that begins on the new vehicle warranty start date. Customers must unlock the navigation service trial by activating the eligible vehicle with a FordPass member account. If not subscribed by the end of the complimentary period, the navigation service will terminate. Connected service and features depend on compatible Bell network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent the operation of connected features. FordPass App, compatible with select smartphone platforms, is available via a download. Message and data rates may apply.
