How do I check for SYNC®* updates?
You can view available SYNC 4A and SYNC 4 updates in your vehicle. For most other versions of SYNC, you will need to go to the Ford Support website.
Finding SYNC Software Updates
Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to verify if there are any updates available for your SYNC system. If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option.
Identifying Your Ford's SYNC Generation

SYNC 4A and SYNC 4
To check for an update with SYNC 4A or 4:
- Tap Settings or the Home icon (varies by software version) on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Select Software Updates.
- Press Update Details to display any pending updates and previous update details.
SYNC 3, SYNC with MyFord Touch®, SYNC Gen 1.1, and SYNC Gen 1
To check for an update with SYNC 3, SYNC with MyFord Touch, SYNC Gen 1.1, and SYNC Gen 1:
- Visit the SYNC and Navigation Updates page.
- Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for update.
- Select the SYNC Update Available dropdown.
- If your SYNC software is current, you will see a green checkmark and a message stating that an update is not available for your vehicle.
- If your SYNC software is not current, you will see a triangle with an exclamation point (). Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your software update.
