2018 Transit Connect with 2.5L iVCT I-4 Engine

2.5L iVCT I-4 Engine

The 2.5L iVCT engine delivers power ratings of 169 horsepower, 171 lb.-ft. of torque, and features computer-controlled, intake variable cam timing (iVCT). iVCT varies the cam timing across the entire power band to match the driving condition, optimizing power and fuel efficiency*2  from low-end acceleration to high-end cruising. There is an available CNG/ Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package** that allows conversion of the engine to run on either compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane autogas.
* Estimated Fuel consumption ratings: 11.9L/100 km (24 mpg) city, 8.7L/100 km (32 mpg) hwy, and 10.5L/100 km (28 mpg) combined (Cargo Van), based on Government of Canada approved test methods. Actual fuel consumption will vary. **Package includes hardened engine intake valves, hardened engine valve seats and hardened engine exhaust valves.
6-Speed SelectShift automatic transmission on the 2018 Transit Connect

6-Speed SelectShift®

The 6-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission has wide-ratio gearing for responsive low-end performance and high-end efficiency. Plus convenient SelectShift and Tow/Haul features SelectShift mode where Progressive Range Select limits the range of gears while in Drive to lock out overdrive for consistent speed over hilly terrain. Full Manual with a toggle switch on the knob lets you shift up and down the gearbox, like operating a manual but without the clutch. In the Tow/Haul mode, on an uphill, it selects the gear that minimizes gear hunting. On a downhill, it keeps the vehicle from upshifting and gaining speed, reducing reliance on brake pressure to slow the vehicle down.

Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS)

Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) operates more efficiently than conventional steering with an electric motor instead of a power-draining hydraulic pump. Its speed-sensitive technology adapts to changing conditions to improve manoeuvrability and handling. EPAS provides an easy, fluid feel of the wheel during low-speed manoeuvres, which becomes firmer as speed increases. That’s not all! EPAS can offset pulling or drifting caused by steady crosswinds or crowned road surfaces and can also dampen wheel vibrations.

2018 Transit Connect Van with AdvanceTrac with RSC and Trailer Sway Control

AdvanceTrac® with RSC® 19

Standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®)19 uses two gyroscopic sensors monitoring yaw and roll rates, helping you maintain control whenever it detects wheelslip, understeer, oversteer or roll motion. It also helps maintain control on slippery road conditions such as ice, gravel or rain. AdvanceTrac with RSC also features Curve Control, which slows the vehicle down when it senses that it’s going too fast for a particular curve by applying braking at individual wheels. Trailer Sway Control19  is included in the Trailer Tow Prep Package.

Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control on the 2018 Transit Connect Passenger Wagon

Curve Control & Torque Vectoring Control19

When you’re approaching a curve on wet or dry pavement, standard electronic Curve Control19  can sense if you’re going too fast and slow you down using throttle reduction and anti-lock braking. Once you’re into the curve, G-forces tend to transfer more traction to the outside tires than to the inside ones. Standard Torque Vectoring Control enhances that by transferring torque to the wheels that have the most grip, reducing understeer and forcing the front end to hug the inside of the curve.19
2018 Transit Connect Passenger Wagon with Emergency Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist

Two Additional Braking Technologies

The 2018 Transit Connect comes with two additional technologies you’ll find reassuring:

When brake pedal pressure applied is insufficient to meet a hard stopping situation, Electronic Emergency Brake Assist10 automatically supplies additional force to reduce the stopping distance.

When you’re stopped on an incline, Hill Start Assist10 automatically holds the brake to help prevent backward roll while you’re going from the brake pedal to the accelerator. This is especially helpful when hauling a heavy load.
