How to Set Up Ford Phone As A Key*

Phone As A Key delivers the functionality of a traditional key fob — the ability to lock/unlock doors, remote vehicle start/stop and operation, and liftgate control from the convenience of your smartphone, all with the FordPass™ App.** In the app, you can create and manage up to four virtual keys with a few simple steps.

To program your smartphone as Phone As A Key:

  1. Visit your device's app store to download the FordPass App
  2. Create or sign in to the FordPass App
  3. From your parked vehicle, follow the prompts on the vehicle’s touchscreen and press Yes. The mobile app will then verify the connection is valid and remote capabilities are active
  4. From your FordPass home screen, press Set up Phone As A Key
  5. Press Set Up Now
  6. Input your FordPass password
  7. Give your virtual key a name like “Jason’s phone” and press Next
  8. Connect your vehicle’s Bluetooth® service by pressing Copy and Continue
  9. Paste the code into the Bluetooth Pairing Request pop-up
  10. A message will appear letting you know Phone As A Key setup is complete

Note: You will also be reminded to set a backup start passcode that allows you to start your vehicle if you are unable to use your phone as a key. You can do that by following these steps:

  1. Enter your vehicle with your phone and key fob, and start it with your foot off the brake
  2. Backup passcode setup will appear on your touchscreen
  3. Create a code with a minimum of eight characters. You can also set a keypad code for keyless entry

Note: If a backup start passcode has not been set up within five start-ups, you’ll need to go into Vehicle Settings and select Setup

If the Phone As A Key belongs to your account, you can delete it from your phone. If not, perform a Master Reset following the steps below to remove all previous settings:

  1. Press Settings on the touchscreen
  2. Press General
  3. Press Reset
  4. Press the App Connect Reset option
  5. Press Reset All
  6. Confirm you would like to continue with erasing all Phone As A Key backup start passcodes
  7. Press Continue
  8. Confirm you are aware you are de-authorizing all authorized users and FordPass Connect settings
  9. Press Continue

Note: Please wait while the vehicle resets all the Phone As A Key backup start passcodes, FordPass Connect settings and de-authorizes previously authorized users.
