Getting Ready for Your Fast Charging Adapter
Select from the questions below to prepare for your new Fast Charging Adapter:
What is the North American Charging Standard (NACS)?
The NACS is a charging system that is being adopted across North America. You may also hear NACS referred to as "SAE J3400". NACS chargers will be available for both public charging and home use.
Why do I need an adapter?
Due to the difference between the NACS plug design and the charge port on your vehicle, adapters are required for your electric Ford to use NACS chargers, including over 15,300 upgraded Tesla Superchargers.
- The Fast Charging Adapter available from Ford is compatible with DC Fast Chargers, such as Tesla Superchargers.
- A different adapter is required to charge at Level 1 and Level 2 AC NACS chargers. Adapters to use at Level 1 or Level 2 NACS chargers are available from third-party sellers.
WARNING: To avoid the risk of serious injury and property damage, only use NACS DC adapters sold or provided by Ford or Tesla for use at Tesla Superchargers. Tesla prohibits the use of any other adapter with Tesla charging stations.
WARNING: Do not attempt to use NACS AC adapters with NACS DC Fast Chargers. Failure to follow these instructions may result in vehicle damage not covered by the vehicle warranty.
Important:
- Ford does not guarantee compatibility with aftermarket charging adapters.
- Ford does not recommend or endorse specific aftermarket adapters.
What is the Tesla Supercharger network?
The Tesla Supercharger network has more than 15,300 upgraded Tesla Superchargers across Canada and the United States and is a new fast charging option through the BlueOval Charge Network for electric Ford drivers.
Is a Software Update required to use Tesla Superchargers?
While updates are not required for compatibility with Tesla Superchargers, software updates will enhance the experience at Tesla Superchargers. We recommend that you enable automatic updates to receive software updates and take advantage of these enhancements.
Note: E-Transit customers need to contact a Ford Dealer to receive these updates.
Is a BlueOval Charge Network membership required to use the Tesla Supercharger network?
A no-annual-fee BlueOval Charge Network membership will be required to order your Fast Charging Adapter. Your BlueOval Charge Network membership and the Plug & Charge feature can be used to activate and pay for charging at upgraded Tesla Superchargers.
To enroll in the BlueOval Charge Network or to manage your membership, you can visit the Connected Services homepage.
Is there a cost to access the BlueOval Charge Network?
No. All electric Ford customers have access to the BlueOval Charge Network, no matter when they bought their vehicle, with no annual fee.
Is there anything else I need to do to get ready?
Make sure the email address associated with your Ford Account is up to date so that you can receive communications from Ford regarding the Fast Charging Adapter.
Also, ensure that a default payment method has been added to your wallet via https://www.ford.ca/myaccount/wallet before using public charging.
Can I use my Fast Charging Adapter at Tesla Destination Chargers or at home with a NACS Charger?
No. The Fast Charging Adapter is not compatible with Level 1 or Level 2 Alternating Current (AC) chargers, including Tesla Destination Chargers and home chargers with NACS connectors.
I have a Ford Plug-In Hybrid or Ford Focus Electric. Can my vehicle use the Fast Charging Adapter to charge at Tesla Superchargers?
