How do I use the Trailer Light Check feature in the Ford app?

On the Vehicle dashboard of the Ford app, you can do a trailer light check for your turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights, and rear fog lamps. Use the steps below for more information. 

Requirements 

  • You have a compatible F-150* added to the Ford app.
  • Your vehicle's modem is activated.
  • Your vehicle's Connectivity Settings are enabled.
  • Your vehicle's ignition is on and remains in Park (P).
  • Your battery's status is good.
  • All lights, including brake lights, blinkers, hazard lights, and exterior lights, are turned off.
  • Your trailer must be electrically connected.  

Trailer Light Check With the Ford App

Conducting a Light Check

  1. Log in to the Ford app.
  2. Go to the Vehicle dashboard.
  3. Select Trailer Light Check.
  4. Enter your vehicle, turn your ignition on, and leave your vehicle in Park (P).
  5. Exit your vehicle and stand to the rear to start the light check.
  6. Tap Start Check. The signal will go to the cloud and the Start button will show a spinner while the command is sent.

The Trailer Light Check is in progress when the "Light Sequence in Progress" pop-up appears.

Notes: 

  • The lights will sequence in the order shown on the modal. This will repeat five times.
  • To end the light check at any time, select Stop Check. When the Stop command is sent, a loading spinner will be shown within the Stop Check button.

Once the Trailer Light Check is complete, you should see the Light Sequences Complete pop-up, with an option to restart the check. If you tap the Restart Check button, the light check sequence will begin again. 

What to Do if a Light Check Fails

Follow the appropriate steps based on the error state you have experienced.

The lights are unresponsive
  1. Check the trailer wiring harness connection to your vehicle.
  2. Check the trailer tow fuses in the power distribution box. 

    Note: If you need guidance, refer to your Owner’s Manual.
     
  3. Inspect the trailer lamps.
  4. Replace any faulty bulb(s).
The "Temporarily unavailable" message appears

This message appears when there are system problems or when there is poor connectivity. 

Close the Ford app and try again. 

The "Unable to start check" message appears

During a light sequence request, the "Unable to start check" message will appear when a manual interruption is detected during a check. 

Press Try again. If you still experience concerns select Troubleshooting to try to remedy your concern. 

If you experience any issues, contact Ford app support for additional assistance using the Account > Contact Help options in the Ford app.
