How do I install booster seats in my Ford?

Booster seats are a middle step between a child safety seat with a harness and a vehicle safety belt.  They raise and position a child so the vehicle’s lap/shoulder belt fits properly.  Some allow for attaching to the vehicle’s LATCH system and some do not.

  • Children between four and 12 years old and under 4’9” tall who have outgrown their forward-facing child safety seat should be properly restrained using a belt-positioning booster seat and the vehicle’s lap/shoulder safety belt until the vehicle’s lap/shoulder safety belt fits them properly without the aid of the booster seat.  The lap belt should rest low across the hips and the shoulder belt should fit across the center of their shoulder and chest.
  • After outgrowing a booster seat, children should always properly use a vehicle safety belt and, those under age 13, should ride in a rear seating position.
  • Old/used booster seats should not be used unless you are certain they have never been in a crash, you have all the parts (including instructions), you register it with the booster seat manufacturer, and it has not surpassed any expiration date it might have. Seats that are 6 years old or older should be discarded and never used.
  • Always read both the vehicle Owner’s Manual and the instructions that come with the booster seat.
  • It is important to remember that the best booster seat is the one that correctly fits the child, the vehicle, and is used correctly every time.
  • Get your child's safety seat checked. Locate a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) by visiting www.cpsac.org.

For specific information on your vehicle, refer to your Owner's Manual.
