How do I precondition my battery for DC Fast Charging?
Your Ford electric vehicle (EV) is equipped with En-Route Preconditioning. Your EV relies on Connected Navigation, Google Maps™ EV Routing for Android Auto™, or Apple Maps® EV Routing in CarPlay® to know when you are navigating to a direct current (DC) fast charger. Your vehicle will automatically cool or warm its battery to ensure charging performance when you arrive.
Important: En-Route Preconditioning for Apple Maps EV Routing in CarPlay is currently only available on the 2026 model year (MY) Mustang Mach-E.
How do I turn on En-Route Preconditioning?
En-Route Preconditioning is enabled when you:
- Choose a DC fast charger from the list of nearby chargers using one of the following:
- Connected Navigation
- Google Maps EV Routing
- Plan a route that includes a DC fast charging stop, using one of the following:
- Connected Navigation
- Google Maps EV Routing
- Apple Maps EV Routing

General En-route Preconditioning Tips
En-Route Preconditioning will not be enabled under the following conditions:
- You have a predicted battery level on arrival that is less than 5%.
- You are predicted to have less than 10 miles of range remaining at arrival.
Note: En-Route Preconditioning uses excess heating or cooling capacity not used in the cabin.
- Since your comfort takes priority, the capacity available for preconditioning may be limited in extremely hot or cold temperatures.
- Reducing the use of your cabin heating or cooling as you approach a fast charger can increase the capacity available for En-Route Preconditioning.
Apple Maps EV Routing in CarPlay
Your vehicle will not precondition its battery if you manually select and navigate to a charger. It will only enable En-Route Precondition when Apple Maps EV routing determines that a charger is needed.
Connected Navigation
You will not be able to navigate without an active Connected Navigation Subscription.
Note: This does not apply to vehicles with Connected Built-in Navigation.
