Which SYNC®* Navigation Maps version do I have?

Identifying Your Vehicle's SYNC Navigation Maps Version

Note: You can confirm your SYNC generation through the SYNC and Navigation Updates page by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or logging in with your Ford credentials and selecting Check for Update. Your SYNC Generation will appear under SYNC Current Version. 

SYNC 4/SYNC 4A

You will receive Map updates automatically through over-the-air Ford Power-Up software updates during your Connected Navigation service(s) free trial (either Connected Navigation 90-day trial** or Connected Built-In Navigation 3 years of service***) and subscribed service periods, ensuring that you are always operating on the latest Navigation Maps version. 

Full Map updates occur once per year. Updates for the areas you drive most often (referred to as "home zones") occur quarterly.

SYNC 3

SYNC 3 systems have the Navigation Maps data stored inside the SYNC 3 module. To check your current Maps version:

  1. Press Settings on your SYNC screen.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select About SYNC

Your Navigation Maps version will be displayed.

SYNC with MyFord Touch

SYNC with MyFord Touch uses an SD card to store the Navigation Maps data. To check your current Maps version:

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Select Help.
  3. Select System Information.

Your Navigation Maps version will be displayed.

SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation

Next-Generation Navigation

  1. Select the hard button.
  2. Select System Info.

The Maps version will be displayed (a number followed by the letter X).

Navigation "P" Version

  1. Select the MENU hard button.
  2. Press System Info.

The Maps version will be in the lower right corner (a number followed by the letter P).

How do I get the latest Maps update?


*Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.

**Connected Navigation services require SYNC 4 and FordPass® Connect (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connected service, and the FordPass App (see FordPass terms for details). Eligible vehicles receive a complimentary 90-day trial of navigation services that begins on the new vehicle warranty start date. Customers must unlock the navigation service trial by activating the eligible vehicle with a FordPass member account. If not subscribed by the end of the complimentary period, the navigation service will terminate. Connected service and features depend on compatible network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent operation of connected features.

Eligible vehicles receive a complimentary 3-year trial of navigation services that begins on the new vehicle warranty start date. If not subscribed by the end of the complimentary period, the connected navigation service will terminate, and the system will revert to embedded offline navigation. Connected service and features depend on compatible network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent operation of connected features.
