What charge level is recommended for daily driving?

Ford recommends that you set a charge limit of 90% for everyday driving and charge up to 100% when you need the full range for a trip.

Charging to 90% helps prolong the life of your battery.

What happens if I run out of charge on the road?

Ford Roadside Assistance can help. You can choose where you would like to have your vehicle towed and recharged within 25 kilometres (km) of your vehicle's location: your home, a public charging station, or a Ford Dealer.

If beyond 25 km, Ford will take you to the closest public charger or Ford EV-certified dealer.

Ford Roadside Assistance is included with your F-150 Lightning for 5 years/100,000 km from the warranty start date (whichever comes first), with the option to extend after that.

Can the F-150 Lightning charge other Electric Vehicles (EVs)?

Yes, the F-150 Lightning can charge other EVs using Pro Power Onboard and the Ford Mobile Power Cord 30 amp (30A). The Mobile Power Cord can be ordered through your local Ford Dealer.

  • All F-150 Lightning vehicles can use their onboard 120 volt (V) outlets to support Level 1 charging of another EV.
  • F-150 Lightning vehicles with 9.6 kilowatt (kW) Pro Power Onboard can support Level 2 charging of another EV.

Note: To enable Level 2 charging with 9.6 kW Pro Power Onboard, you also need a NEMA L14-30P to 14-50R adapter.

Home Charging

Select from the questions below for answers about charging your F-150 Lightning at home.

What is the right home charging solution for me?

Go to Ford F-150 Lightning to learn more about home charging options and which Ford charging solutions are available for purchase.

What factors should I consider when choosing a home charging solution?

To find the right charging solution for your home, consider the following:

How fast your F-150 Lightning can accept power:

For Level 1 and Level 2 charging, all EVs depend on their onboard charger(s) to accept alternating current (AC) power and convert it to Direct Current (DC) power to charge. The F-150 Lightning cannot charge faster than the capability of its onboard charger:

  • 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning Extended Range: 80 ampere (A) (19.2 kW)
  • 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning Standard Range: 48A (11.5 kW)
  • 2024 F-150 Lightning Extended and Standard Range: 48A (11.5 kW)

How much power your charging equipment can deliver:

Home chargers are capable of different charge speeds. Your F-150 Lightning cannot accept more power than your home charger can deliver.

  • Ford Mobile Power Cord:
    • Level 1: 12 amp (A) (2.4 kW)
    • Level 2: 30A (7.2 kW)
  • Ford Connected Charger Station: up to 48A (11.5 kW)
  • Ford Charge Station Pro: up to 80A (19.2 kW)

How much power your home can provide for your charging equipment:

Each home is unique:

  • Not all homes support every charging solution.
  • Your home charger cannot deliver more power to your F-150 Lightning than your home circuit has available. Consult with a licensed electrician for more information on the capabilities of your home electrical system.
