What are some basic tips for using Phone As A Key with my Ford vehicle?
For the best experience when using Phone As A Key™*, we have created a helpful tip sheet to optimize your performance. See the details below for more information.
Note: Limitations can vary based on the make and model of your phone, your phone's location at the time of use, and physical barriers.
Tips for Using Phone As A Key
- To get the fastest response with Phone As A Key, it is recommended that you leave the Ford app open. If closed, the Ford app will relaunch when it detects your vehicle, which takes a moment to re-establish a connection and delays response time.
Your vehicle needs to be able to detect your Phone As A Key to unlock the doors, and must be able to find your phone clearly within the interior of the vehicle to drive.
Note: When in your vehicle, it is recommended that you move your phone toward the center of the interior (e.g. armrest area).
- Thick or bulky smartphone cases can interfere with the Bluetooth® connection. Your signal can be delayed or may not be available at all if there are bulky items between your phone and the vehicle (e.g., the phone is in a briefcase between folders, in a bag sandwiched between a laptop and a legal pad, or in a back pants pocket close to the seatback).
Factors That Can Affect Phone As A Key Performance
The following actions can cause a lack of communication with your device and vehicle:
- The Ford app is closed.
- Your Phone As A Key is not active or enabled on at least one phone.
- Your device is not using the latest operating system and/or Bluetooth software.
- Your device and/or vehicle is out of range. The typical operating range for Phone As A Key is 131 ft (40 m).
- Your Bluetooth connection is not enabled, disrupted, or out of range.
- Your vehicle battery has depleted.
- Your phone is too close to metal objects or other electronic devices.
- There is interference from other devices using radio frequencies or physical barriers.
- You carry your phone in a purse or back pocket where the Bluetooth signal is blocked.
Important: Your key fob should not be left inside your vehicle. We highly recommend always taking your keys and Phone As A Key device when exiting your vehicle and locking all doors.
